COBRA KAI creator on their BTTF joke

At the end of COBRA KIA’s finale, the show’s creators cameo as a couple of guys who’re trying to get a BACk TO THE FUTURE tv show made. It’s a joke, it’s not really happening, they say (but they would love to play with that franchise).

“We’re playing around,” Josh Heald told Den of Geek of the cameo he and Jon Hurwirz make in that episode. “We’re having a little meta moment. In this universe of the show, there’s no such thing as a movie called The Karate Kid so these guys can’t talk about hey “wouldn’t it be great to go revisit that? But Back to the Future does exist.” 

Even if they wanted to do something with BACK TO THE FUTURE, they likely could not.

“We have a feeling that the stars will not align on that one given the current state of affairs of creative control. But that doesn’t mean we’re any less fans of that franchise,” Heald said.
